THIRST FOUR
Second hand in style.

After being home in Manchester for a while, I realised how much I had taken for granted Manchester's underground and alternative scene; an aspect of Nottingham I am still yet to find. I feel that the Lace market only provides you with a taster for the things that Manchester has to offer on a much larger scale.

The Northern Quarter in Manchester is probably Lace Market's bigger and better equivalent;

The Northern Quarter

So, I decided that on one (very) icy Sunday morning, I'd take a trip (literally, due to the icy roads) to find out exactly what I'd been missing. I came across a few new additions to the existing vintage shops which line Oldham street as well as visiting a few favourites- POP and Ryan vintage. My favourite displays were in American Graffiti's windows' and interior, who had podiums of shoes scattered around the shop, in the shape of wedding cakes, with the best and most extravagant pair placed on the top tier.

unique and funky merchandising

POP- Hanging shoes
I thought this was really clever way of displaying something as simple as a pair of old converse

POP- V.M

I love everything about this part of my home town- the little tea shop's with Mr scruff tea pots, the bars which serve cocktails equivelent to the size of a meal, as well as all the hidden vintage stores (not forgetting to mention its famous 3 pound shop) and quirky shops filled with Japenese packaged accessories and unusual gifts.

Quirky and eclectic VM
I thought this was a good representation of how the stores on Oldham street utilise their windows with much limited space.

Display cabinets and VM
The use of lighting in a lot of the stores around Oldham Street really helped to create an atmosphere, as if you were stepping back into the 60's.

The famous 3 pound vintage store
Definitely the best place in Manchester to find a bargain; even if that bargain is in the form of a dated 1980's adidas wind-breaker jacket.

Amazing graffiti- Kezzo

Sampling some of CUP's much loved tea.

I anticipate going back and finding many more new and interesting parts of the Northern Quarter to explore. I also can't wait to sample yet another one of Socio rehab's malted milk marvel's or even just a cup of tea from CUP.
